The Postal Bank is one of the largest French banks. It was founded in 2006 after having inherited the financial services of La Poste. Moreover, it is currently a 100% subsidiary of the latter. The Postal Bank currently has over 10 million customers and over 11.5 million deposit accounts. Therefore, it always does its best to put in place security systems that keep pace with the evolution of technology, for the management of customer accounts and access to service. The “Certicode” system is one of them. But unfortunately, the latter presented loopholes which cost the Bank dearly.
The “Certicode” system has been flawed!
The Certicode system was developed to allow customers to secure their online transactions free of charge. With this system, it is possible to enjoy a much higher level of protection when you access your account online with a laptop, desktop computer, smartphone or even tablet PC. To subscribe to this service, you must go to an advisor.
The system was designed to facilitate the financial transaction operations of customers. For example, the service is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. It is also possible to make international transfers in a few clicks with Certicode. But unfortunately, a few months ago this system has already exhibited vulnerabilities.
Vulnerabilities that have cost the Bank dearly
A few months ago, the Certicode system of the Banque Postale, which should be a “simple” and “secure” service, presented security breaches which cost the Bank 25 million euros. 7 people were taken into custody in Toulouse shortly after these facts. To find them, the bank just recovered the personal and telephone data of some of the hackers who then gave other names. Another source indicates that in total, there were 10 pirates. Some were from Angers and Castres.
Precautionary measures
Hackers are currently very numerous on the Internet. There are currently more than 400 million people trying to find new ways to steal personal and confidential information from Internet users. Nowadays, some of them even manage to decipher all the information received and downloaded by Internet users. But fortunately with the privacycritic or the virtual private network, we can bypass this attack. VPN is a service that encrypts the user’s internet connection. It provides it with an encryption rate of 256 bits (Open vpn) and it also offers it the possibility of unblocking geo-censored sites online.
There are many advantages offered by vpn or virtual private network. In terms of security, it is able to protect all the information sent and received by the Internet user to access Certicode. For this, the vpn protocols take care of the encryption. In the case of Open vpn which was mentioned above, the standard encryption rate is 128 bits – 256 bits but it can reach up to 2048 bits. With such a high encryption rate, you will be safe from any attempt to decrypt your connection. At the same time, you will have a new IP address or virtual IP address. Thanks to it, you will no longer leave personal traces on the Internet. Not to mention that the vpn will also allow you to access your favorite websites anywhere. It is a service widely used by expatriates who would like keep access to their favorite television shows in foreign countries .
